Hands-on core workshops & internships
Our workshops & internships are educational opportunities run by core staff. They take place at actual building sites, creating real projects in community settings. Through hands-on experience, classes, demonstrations, presentations, and evening events participants gain applicable skills in Natural Building. These events range from one-day to six-months. We work with permaculture principles and appropriate design, incorporating indigenous materials such as clay, sand, straw, bamboo, stone, wood, rice husk, urbanite, bottles, and whatever else is re-usable or local to the particular areas in which we are building. Topics and techniques include a combination of any of the following: adobe; wattle and daub; cob; strawclay/slipstraw; straw bale; timber-frame; earthen plasters, paints, floors, and decorative relief work; tile, thatch, and living roofs; dry stack stone, and earth bag foundations; decorative and structural bamboo; Permaculture, whole systems and passive solar design. Trainings for Trainers and Activists
Trainings for Trainers and Activists are a vehicle for us to be effective in reaching exponential numbers of people with Natural Building and other sustainable living techniques. The Trainings are specially developed with appropriate curriculums which not only cover advanced how-to details, but address organizational management, group facilitation, media, event and project planning, budgets, timelines, and so on. The Training curriculum is developed and reviewed by a diverse team of folks who are at the forefront of the movement.
These Trainings are designed for dedicated community leaders who come as representatives of larger organizations and networks. By training a select participant pool, our own time, energy, and investment is exponentially more effective because the skills will be passed along to thousands of others. These Trainings are also an opportunity for previous participants to gain further experience amongst peers.
Trainings for Trainers and Activists will include regional experts so that cultural needs can be addressed and local networks can be established and thrive. Our goal is to support independent locally-based hubs of knowledgable activity follwing the Trainings.
Affiliate events
Our affiliates are individuals and organizations with whom we have worked with through the years. Some are previous participants who've gone on to initiate their own projects. Others connect with us through years of their own involvement in the field. We are dedicated to serving as ongoing support for our affiliates, including promoting their projects and programs. For details on affiliates and their projects and programs see below.
Friends & alumni events
Friends and alumni are individuals with whom we have worked. They are spear-heading their own projects and open to others joining them:
We support them by listing their events and projects that are open to the public. Kleiwerks International does not take responsibility for the quality or content of these events or projects, but we wish them very well.
