Ashevillage Insitute (AVI)
AVI is a project of Kleiwerks International that creates sustainable living solutions through education, demonstration and action. AVI's headquarter is in a downtown neighborhood in Asheville, North Carolina.

AVI creates sustainable living solutions through:

• Eco-demonstration centers that serve local needs

Timeline
2007: Complete house retrofit including clay plasters & paints; get Certificate of Occupancy; shed relocation; establish greenhouse & tent area; exterior grading; complete garottage (adobe out building); design outdoor classroom; kudzu management; site design begins
2008: Organize citywide event - Ashevillage Building Convergence; establish gardens, compost & humanure; host educational programs; install courtyard
2009: Design & implement headquarter's master permaculture plan; host PDC & other workshops
2010: Strategic planning & development; further installation of masterplan

Parent organization
AVI thanks it's parent nonprofit, Kleiwerks International, an organization that empowers communities to be more sustainable by teaching hands-on natural building and whole-systems solutions. Since 1998, Kleiwerks International has built dozens of community centers using natural and renewable materials. We have trained thousands of people from 34 countries and have led over 200 educational programs.
