Natural Building Practicum
One Month Hands-On Immersion from May 13 to June 13, 2010
Casa Tierra - San Francisco del Monte de Oro, San Luis, Argentina
Build Argentina's 2nd vaulted adobe structure with Jorge Belanko
U$S 1,500 includes food, lodging, workshops, subsidy for local participant.
Experienced natural builders preferred, but other inquiries welcome.
Hands-on techniques
- Foundations: stone and bag
- Materials: identification and mixing techniques
- Walls: adobe, wattle and daub, cob
- Adobe arches and vaults (Lak’a Uta)
- Finishes: plaster and paints
- Practical learning about running a workshop
Practicum overview
- Participants with natural building experience
- 6 hour regular work days
- Shared meals, cooking and cleaning responsibilities
- Full work days during special workshops includes:
- 4 day Workshop on Foundation and Walls with 15 spanish-speaking participants (you included!) (May 22 to May 25, 2010)
- 9 day Workshop on Lak’a Uta with Belanko and 25 spanish-speaking participants (you included!) (June 3 to June 13, 2010)

- Full accommodations in the house next to Casa Tierra
- Option to camp, there's 4000 sq meters of space
- Breakfast, lunch, dinner included. Food prep/cooking will be shared.
- Free days to relax and visit the surroundings - rivers, hills, forest, etc.

- US$500 non-refundable registration to hold your space, limited availability
- US$1000 remaining, DUE by May 5; covers practicum, food and lodging

Details on Lak’a Uta
- Lak’a Uta means “casa de tierra” in Aymara.
- Egyptian vaulted roofing technique that's more than 6,000 years old.
- Allows to roof without wood, steel, no other structural material needed other than adobe bricks
- Walls and roof are made from adobe, too
- Belanko has built one in his house (pictures); this will be the second structure like this in Argentina.
- This is a design made from a Danish NGO that has been working with a Bolivian NGO since 1990 -
